The Pea Peddler’s vessel is a Redwood & Cedar cabin on wheels conceived in romance & built with love using upcycled materials.

THE CAFE

“The present day manifestation of Pea Peddler’s Café birthed from a deep nostalgia for the romance of Café culture in France and it’s effects on human connection, coupled with a wildly serendipitous love affair of my own. I hope to offer a bubble of magic & beauty that allows you to relax into love & inspire authentic, profound communion.”

Pauline Igo, Licensed Massage Therapist OR #25972

My first memory massaging is when I was 7 at my aunt's wedding. I offered shoulder rubs for a $1! In 2020 I graduated from Ashland Institute of Massage. My training there was in Swedish, Neuromuscular, Myofacial and Deep Tissue techniques. I furthered my education with Reiki, Cupping, Thai & Craniosacral Massage. Since July 2021 I offer sessions out of my private studio down town Ashland, OR.

My work is a combination of the thrapeutic techniques I've learned coupled with an intuitive & energetic dimension.

Healing touch during your evening together helps kick in the parasympathetic nervous system which enables rest, digestion & connection.

WORLD CUISINE & HERBAL TEAS

My Menu is a combination of dishes from around, mainly influenced by my youth in Marseille with Morocan Tajines and simple French Medeterranean meals. My love for food and the beautiful way it brings us together is endless!

Cooking with high quality, ethically sourced or locally foraged products is fundemental in my culinary offerings. Using food & plants as medicine is a guiding philosophy in my life that I am eager to share!

The story.

The beginnings.

“From big house to small house to no house to tent; back to big house wanting a small house and using the tent – over having no house but appalled by rent… Came rolling through my day dreams, night dreams and life plan – the epiphany of living in a VAN!” by Pauline; me - in France, 2016.

After years of fantasising of building out a mobile space to live in, I moved from France to my brother in law’s farm in Oregon in 2018.

A couple months into unfruitful craigslist research for a vehicle, my 1995 Emerald GMC Sierra beauty made it’s way to me. Serendipitous happenings led the way & I quickly began to dream out a mobile cabin on the truck bed.

The love story.

Just a couple months after moving across the Atlantic, I met & quickly fell for Jesse. As master manifestation, serendipity & ridiculous amounts of luck would have it, Jesse happened to be a skilled carpenter. Considering I had very little experience wood working, Jesse is the soul reason this turtle shell of a home has materialised from 2D sketches to real world 3D. Rarely have I encountered such generosity - he built me a home.

Jesse is a talented wood worker and I am a dedicated thrifter, rent avoider, tiny space designer & lover! Contact him here for finish work, custom wooden drums and more.

Over the course of 3 years we built the camper & the foundation of a friendship of a lifetime. We decided to call off our romantic partnership to leave way to an even more beautiful friendship. This friendship is my proudest accomplishment and my most treasured love story.

The build.

I originally lived in a little 2 person tent when I moved to the farm in Oregon. Then, within a few weeks I upgraded to an army tent. The smoke from the surrounding fires that year was so thick that I had to move indoors. All situations I came across were either very temporary or much too pricey. The camper became a better and better idea, and it’s urgency became more and more obvious. Rushed by the upcoming fall rains, our first objective was to box me in. We followed the simple outline of a design but mostly improvised depending on budget, aquired materials & energy levels. The bulk of the exterior was built totally off grid. We had to use all battery powered & hand tools pausing to keep up with the charge & adapting to weather.

The build continued.

For more details & photos of each stage of the build you can visit my Instagram page.

Each corner has it's story, it's symbolism, it's magic. From the drift wood from Orcas Island to the myrtle wood trim found where I first proclaimed my love to Jesse. From the endless hours spent milling in the shop, to the Craigslist friends made along the way - each stage has it's tale & I relish in the home made energy every night as I snuggle my pup and wander into dreamland.

It is insulated with wool scraps, havelock wool & my wardrobe. Lovingly finished with raw linseed oil. The exterior is Redwood & Cedar, the interior is a multitude of different woods & burlap with an all wool rug for flooring. The roof is old tin (& a section is unfortunately plastic to mend an impossible window leak), all windows and accessories are thrifted.

Peddling Peas.

Versions of Peddling Peas have drifted through my imagination, notebooks & plans for at least 10 years. The more concrete ideas & name came to me when I was living alone in my deceased long lost grandmother’s home in a tiny village in the North West of France. I was very isolated there, my greatest companions were my Grandmother’s journals, cookbooks, gardening books as well as the sea cliffs just a 10 minute walk from her home. I realised in a wide array of ways that I was meant to learn from & carry on her dearest intimacies with the plant kingdom, the culinary arts, self sufficiency and Nature as a whole.

My first attempt at a garden was in my granny’s yard, it failed when I impulsively took of for 4 weeks early spring. The peas made it. Not much else did.

To peddle - verb

  1. try to sell (something, especially small goods) by going from place to place.

  2. promote (an idea or view) persistently or widely.

  3. sell (an illegal drug or stolen item). — not the case here, I assure.

The Café.

I’ve dreamt up many versions of the Pea Peddler’s Café, originally in the form of a non profit, self sufficient trailer turned food truck/apothecary, intertwining arts, health, education, activism & community building.

I still hold that version of the project dear, and will work towards it in the future.

The present day manifestation birthed from a deep nostalgia for the romance of Café culture in France and it’s effects on human connection, coupled with a wildly serendipitous love affair of my own. I hope to offer a bubble of magic & beauty that allows you to relax into love & inspire authentic, profound communion.
